LAGOS, NIGERIA – MARCH 8, 2019 – The Lagos State Chapter; the leading branch of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, joined billions of people around the globe in celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day with an event tagged: STEWS (Strong Tender & Empowered Women’s Summit) held in the Function Suite, Sheraton Lagos Hotel on March 8, 2019.
The International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day is powered by the collective efforts of all. Collective action and shared ownership for driving gender parity is what makes the Day successful.
This edition of the STEWS (the second in the series), themed: DREAM. ACHIEVE. CHANGE., featured all-female speakers including the Managing Director, NSIA Insurance Limited, Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu as the special guest of honour and keynote speaker. A leading Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, was the celebrity guest.
According to the special guest of honour and keynote speaker, Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, “Women should dream big and be ready to give it all it takes to actualize their dreams. Women should realize that nothing will come to them if all they do is fold their arms akimbo. Women have all it takes to play in the big league like their counterpart”.
Other distinguished speakers included the Chairman, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, Lynda Onefeli, Managing Director, Hill+Knowlton Nigeria, Tokunbo George-Taylor, Change Management and Transformation Leader, Lande Atere, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, LSF PR, Bidemi Zakariyau. The Managing Consultant, Quadrant MSL, Uche Ajene, moderated the panel discussion to the delight of the 160 participants.
The speakers shared advice and tips on how to transcend social, economic and political challenges against women. The STEWS is the high-profile talk-shop aimed at articulating and aggregating a collective voice to build momentum for gender equality, women empowerment and effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals.
