When public relations professionals step away from their desks for an entire week, you get experiences far more than conferences and speeches, you get a community that prays together, plays together, learns together, and plans for a stronger future. That was the story of the Lagos NIPR PR Fest 2026, a week-long celebration that reminded everyone that public relations is ultimately about people and the passion they carry.
The festival began on a reflective note with Jumat prayers and a members’ hangout, setting the tone with gratitude, unity, and meaningful conversations beyond the workplace. The following day shifted gears as members traded suits for sportswear, enjoying football, indoor games, and fitness activities that reinforced teamwork, healthy competition, and camaraderie.
Sunday’s thanksgiving service brought Christian members together in worship while also celebrating the retirement and remarkable service of one of our members, Mr. Lanre Bajulaiye, recognising a career dedicated to public communication and service.
Monday focused on growth. A mentorship webinar that equipped young professionals with practical career advice, and the Fellows’ Luncheon, which explored the future of the Institute through conversations on mentorship, leadership, sustainability, and attracting the younger generation to the profession.
On Tuesday, participants stepped into the world of security innovations in Nigeria during an educational tour of the E-PAIL Security outfit. The experience perfectly echoed the festival’s theme: ‘Security, Nation Building and Public Trust: Fostering Collective Responsibility through Strategic Public Relations,’ by showing how communication, trust, and innovation work hand in hand to strengthen national development.
The festival reached its defining moment at the MUSON Centre with the Annual Conference, where conversations throughout the week converged into a compelling call for action. Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, was Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom who challenged conventional thinking, stressing that lasting security cannot be built on force alone, but on trust, transparency, and shared responsibility. He urged stronger collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, communication professionals, the media, and citizens, while advocating evidence-based communication, grassroots engagement, and a unified national narrative as critical pillars of nation-building.
The momentum continued with an engaging panel discussion, featuring Prof. Adedeji Oyenuga, CP Tijani Fatai, Mrs. Eniola Mayowa, and Mr. Basil Agboarumi, who agreed that public trust is the currency of effective security. From combating misinformation and promoting institutional transparency, to strengthening citizen participation and community intelligence, the discussions reinforced a powerful message: strategic public relations is not merely a support function but an essential driver of national security and development. The conference seamlessly transitioned into the 37th Annual General Meeting, where members reflected on the Chapter’s achievements and charted an ambitious course for its future.
More than a calendar of events, PR Fest 2026 showcased the many sides of public relations, including its ability to inspire learning, build relationships, encourage service, and unite professionals behind a common purpose. It was a fitting celebration of a profession that continues to shape conversations, strengthen institutions, and build public trust across Nigeria
